PEMANFAATAN LIMBAH KULIT BUAH DURIAN MENTEGA SEBAGAI CARBOXYMETHYL CELLULOSE (CMC)
Abstract
In Indonesia there are various types of durian fruit, even in the area of Jombang, East Java, durian fruit contests are often held to find out the best type of local durian. In 2016, the butter-type durian managed to win the contest. On the other hand, only 20.52% of the durian fruit can be eaten and the rest is waste. Durian fruit skin waste contains a lot of cellulose (50-60%) so that it can be used as raw material for making CMC (Carboxymethyl Cellulose). Making this CMC consists of three stages. The first stage was cellulose isolation with 28.9% yield of cellulose which was then analyzed using FTIR. In the second stage, cellulose is alkalized using 20% NaOH and then in the carboxymethylation stage using Sodium Monocloroacetate. The results of the research carried out produced CMC yield as much as 82.75%. Analysis of the degree of substitution with a value of 0.78. CMC pH analysis produces pH 7.2 value and FTIR analysis produces CMC which is strengthened by the emergence of C = O carbonyl group at wave number 1546 cm-1 and the formation of an ester group at wave number 1745 cm-1.
